Wildlife Rehabilitation Training & Skills Development

Wildlife rehabilitation training and skills development.

Wildlife Rescue, South Africa aims to improve and standardize the level of wildlife rehabilitation training in South Africa, by offering internationally recognized courses to rehabilitators and rescuers, that focus on the health and welfare of wildlife patients.

Through collaboratively working with professional wildlife specialists around the country, Wildlife Rescue, S.A, is able to bring the latest research, technologies, and skills to rehabilitators and rescuers, with hands-on training courses at a venue near you. Facilitated by IWRC Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator, Michelle Watson, the practical courses and skills development programs introduce students to animal welfare and rehabilitation protocols that meet international standards.

The Wildlife First Aid and Stabilization & Basic Wildlife Rehabilitation Week-end training WORKSHOP!

Our most popular course is an intensive 2-day workshop covering everything from rescue, first aid, and stabilization through to basic wildlife rehabilitation protocols,  procedures, and wound treatment.

This jam-packed course is suitable for beginners and experienced rehabbers alike and will give you a solid foundation for our more advanced speciality courses.

Advanced Courses for Wildlife Rehabilitators

At Wildlife Rescue South Africa we offer speciality courses on various aspects of Wildlife Rehabilitation, aimed at experienced rehabilitators wanting to acquire their certification through the IWRC.

Our training courses are approved by the IWRC for 10CEUs and prepare rehabbers for taking on a senior position at a permitted rehabilitation center. Why not have us come to you? We can present these one day courses at your rehabilitation facility or at a venue near you.

Upcoming Events

Wildlife Rescue, South Africa is collaborating with the UNESCO recognized, Kogelberg Biosphere in the Western Cape, to help address the issue of burnt animals after uncontrolled fires, such as the fires that effect a large area in January 2021. This collaboration led to discussions with the Overstrand Municipality about opening a wildlife rescue center in Pringle Bay. An old building and 9 hectares of land has now been secured and the project is underway to set up a Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (WRRC) to assist injured or displaced wildlife in the Western Cape. The Centre will focus on the conservation of protected and endangered endemic species, and also provide training and education to international and local students in this growing field. This rescue center will aid in the preservation of the biodiversity of this unique area and the species that inhabit it. As a welfare facility, the WRRC will provide veterinary care for sick or injured animals to alleviate the suffering of the affected animal and will also provide a facility where orphaned animals can be raised wild. As a training facility, this center will be a first in South Africa to offer certified courses in the field of Wildlife rehabilitation, focusing on internationally accepted principles and protocols. The aim of this training is to improve the standard of Wildlife rehabilitation by providing a bench mark for future rehabilitation centers. At present, the building is a hollow shell, filled with nothing but dreams of something amazing. We need your help to raise the funds to convert this structure into a world-class animal hospital. We are looking for partners who, through their green initiative, can make this dream a reality. Please contact me now for more information about how you can get involved.
